Vienna will raise fees by almost six percent in 2025. A family will pay around 37 euros more per year.

Now it’s official. The City of Vienna is raising its charges from January 2025. Waste collection, sewerage, water and parking will become more expensive. According to calculations by City Hall, an average single household (40 m²) will pay €1.35/month or €16.20/year more, while for family households (90 m²) the increase will be €3.11/month or around €37/year.

In the future, a parking ticket for one hour will cost €2.60 instead of €2.50. “The increase is necessary to guarantee Vienna’s excellent supply and infrastructure at a top level in the future,” says City Councillor for Finance Peter Hanke (SPÖ). Every euro from the water, wastewater and waste disposal sectors goes towards maintaining and expanding these essential services. For example, around 330 million euros will be invested in new sewer infrastructure by 2028. Some money from motorists will go to other areas, such as expanding cycle paths or public transport. The basis for inflation is the Valorization Act. The consumer price index has exceeded the value of three percent. Therefore, it will be raised automatically.
Nevertheless, the fees will remain moderate compared to other cities in Austria, it is said. Vienna is the cheapest city after Salzburg for waste collection, while the capital is in the middle of the pack for sewerage costs.
